Re: Lemmings PC music

in Milliways
Well the answer is simple: The music starts always from the first tune if you start to play - its not tied to certain levels. So if you play several levels consecutively the music actually changes. But if you simply type in codes for the respective levels you always start from the first tune.

Re: Lemmings PC music

Hmm, have to look further into this. The version I'm currently using has the same music at least up to level 12. My original is at my parent's place so I'm not definitely sure that my current version is behaving as it should.

Lemmings PC music

in Milliways
I just started Lemmings in order to listen to the Adlib music and noticed that every level has the same music. I know the Amiga version had some nice music - including Mozart's Alla Turca. Is it really true that the PC version has only one track of music? I played until Level 12 and gave up when I …

Re: DDraw Filtering

As I said above, I actually like the blurriness of the bilinear filter. Would it not be nice if the user could control which filtering is used in D3D? Btw, while playing around with my ATI Tray Tool, I discovered I can select so called Smart Shaders which simulate black and white monitors or color …

Re: DDraw Filtering

And is there any way to control the hardware scaling, i.e. the filtering accompanied by it? Is this a DirectX/OpenGL feature or does it depend on the hardware implementation of the graphics card which is used?

Hmm, staying logged in all the time. I'll try the cookies. The thing is that it just appeared without any apparent reason. No other problems noted, so far.

Unread posts marker

Is anyone else also having the problem that unread posts are not properly marked (appeared two days ago, approximately)? Btw, Snover, do you keep backups of the forum? Forums are frequently hacked, these days. Would be a shame to lose all the oldgames lore.

DDraw Filtering

I have some questions regarding filtering with ddraw output. Some people seem to find the blurriness of the ddraw output bad, but I like it very much. What exactly is done to achieve this kind of blurriness and who does it (hardware, software)? Furthermore, can you control the amount of blurriness …

Re: MT-32 vs Adlib/Soundblaster

I never played Legend games. I was always fascinated by graphics and didn't touch text adventures (even if those by Legend were some sort of mixture). That means I also have never listened to the soundtracks of any of those games. Can I find the MT-32 MIDIs anywhere? Do you have any recordings, …

Re: MT-32 vs Adlib/Soundblaster

I'd like to point out that there's more to MT-32 game music than Sierra. While there was exceptionally good support for the MT-32 by them, other game developers also focused on high quality music. Lucasarts, Origin or Westwood are only a few names which come to mind. Have a listen at Monkey Island …

Re: MT-32 vs Adlib/Soundblaster

Well, see for yourself but take the whole soundtrack into consideration. I never tested it myself since I have no Sound Canvas at hand. How about making some recordings with your SC-88? (You'd have to take other MIDI files, obviously) At the Queststudios forum there were some discussions about Dune …

Re: MT-32 vs Adlib/Soundblaster

Maybe I'm derailing the thread but concerning MT-32 favourites I should add I've posted a link to the Dune 2 Midis here (recorded digital audio available, too). In my opinion, it doesn't get much better than this. (I.e. I think this soundtrack is _the_ best for the MT-32.)

Re: MT-32 vs Adlib/Soundblaster

I know that most games sound better on MT-32 (I have MT-32) but which ones show the biggest difference? The answer is subjective but anyway... IMHO, Space Quest 3 sounds great with the MT-32 while Adlib support is rather mediocre. Dune (the orignal) is an excellent example for very good Adlib and …

Re: Despicable Ads at the-underdogs.org

in Milliways
Thanks HunterZ, though I've calmed a bit down since I have Adblock installed by now. Indeed, the point is that The Underdogs is otherwise a rather nice site so it's irritating they use such agressive ads. There are other, more userfriendly ways. (Just asked myself what you would think of your own …

Despicable Ads at the-underdogs.org

in Milliways
Underdogs always had annoying ads, but now the annoyance has passed the limit of tolerability! Even in Firefox, 2 popup windows are generated after clicking on the download link. These windows minimize the Firefox window and pop up dialogs about my registry being corrupt, in danger or whatnot (of …
