What chipset does the board use? It doesn't happen to be a CHiPS PEAK/DM does it? The 386 version states support for 256k in the datasheet, but I have yet to see a board that supports more than 128k, Sadly there was also a 486 version of this chipset, which I believe was popular with OEMs.

Gotta love the name "Baby Screamer". When I search for this board using google image search, I get many pictures of screaming babies. Both the Chaintech and AMI are good boards, but I suspect that there are other equally good ones waiting to be discovered.

If you use configure a DX4 for writeback in a system that doesn't support it, the system will simply crash. Thankfully most CPUs that support writeback are set to writet hrough by default.

There is at least one NEC V-series chip that can address 16MB. One of them is the V33A. It has 24-address lines, and it's an extended 8086.

The ET4000W32P was also another very early chipset for the PCI bus. You have to be careful with these cards though, because many of the early revisions had buggy interfaces. If I recall correctly, revision A and B was bad, but C and D were okay. Trident 9440 was another early popular choice.

I think the only reason your monitor is going nuts is because you're trying to run 1024x768 in an interlaced mode. Make sure it's NON interlaced.

Normally the way these PCI cards work is there is a header that connects to a ribbon cable that plugs into one of the ISA slots for getting the missing signals.
