I think it's probably possible to do a bus divider. There's no solution for the FPU as far as I know though. I believe there are actually circuits out there that allow you to double your CPU speed...so this way you could have a 20MHz CPU on a 10MHz board (but again no FPU).

I thought 256k 512k or a meg didn't matter it was the tag RAM that defined cacheable area. With direct-mapped cache, normally, you scale the TAG with the cache, so 1024K of cache would use 64kx8 TAG. I'm not really sure what would happen if you ran 256K of cache with a 64kx8 TAG, but I have a …

Maybe it's possible that you need to flash the BIOS. I seem to recall something about some of these PCchips boards disabling the cache no matter which way you have the BIOS set. I think that red hill guide discusses it in detail.

As far as I know 12MHz V20 was the fastest 808x on that desktop...but technically those systems were overclocked, so you couldn't really use an FPU or some speed sensitive ISA cards.

The most expensive CPU is the Cyrix 5x86 133, with the AMD 5x86 150/160 a close second. None of these chips went into production in volume. I would guess a UMC U5D DX6-66 would also fetch a small fortune, as well as a TI 5x86-133 prototype.

Most of the early Pentiums had a 32-bit memory path, especially if we're talking consumer oriented products. I believe Compaq was a notable exception.

It's made during one of the final weeks of 1993. 1993 was really the last year 386s were being sold in volume, so I would almost bet on my mother's grave it's a 40MHz part. Regardless of what the marking is, if it works at 40MHz then what difference does it make?

I agree that good 2.5D games look better than a lot of the shoddily done full 3D games, but unreal and quake are not good examples. Unreal in particular had absolutely beautiful graphics.

Those two boards with the orange heatsinks look interesting. Seem to be late model BX boards. Weird choice of placement for the power connector though.

The long slot is almost certainly for a proprietary 32-bit memory expansion. This type of board normally only accepts 256k and 1MB SIMMs.
