A lot of 386s have no cache simply because they don't need it. I believe 25MHz was borderline. It needed cache if you had slow memory, but if you had 60ns RAM you could run 0 wait states and cache wasn't required. Most of the 33MHz and 40Mhz motherboards without cache are the cost reduced SX models. …

Most of the 8-bit RAMDACs only do 256 colour, but some do hi and true colour modes as well. You typically need to look them up to verify what they support. Obviously, your board doesn't use this type of plastic standoff. If you can't figure out what it needs, you may need to improvise. In your picture, I can see a screw hole. That implies you should use metal standoffs.

I think many of the ISA VGA cards from 1993-96 got drivers for Windows 95, but they sometimes did not include all the features that they had in Windows 3.x. I seem to remember reading that TIGA is not supported in Windows 95, and that it is not even possible to create a device driver since the design somehow violates the way Windows 95 functions.

Anyone know why the ATi Mach8/32/64 ISA cards are so expensive on eBay? I've seen some that apparently sell for over $200. Are they needed for industrial computers?

I have a 5162 board in similar condition. It physically looks okay, but I think one of the ICs is dead. I recommend starting off by buying a POST card to see what kind of error codes the board throws up.

Although the card is physically impressive, I don't know that TIGA cards are actually faster than the later generation accelerated SVGA cards. I think had they been, it would have been prominent in the magazines of the time. They certainly have an edge when it comes to maximum supported resolution …

I had a voodoo3 card with a similar problem. I was able to resolve it by reflashing the BIOS. There is a trick to do it. I forget the exact procedure, but it involved booting up with an AGP card with the voodoo3 in the PCI slot and running the flash software.
