It's a CPU card for an old CUPID bus AST system. They used 64-pin CUPID RAM, probably before 72-pin RAM became common. This card also contains a cache controller and a small amount of cache.

I will dig out my SiS rabbit board to try this latest dump, but I'm not optimistic. *edit* Nope, it still doesn't work. The last 3 codes on my post card are 15, 20 then 00. This is a weird board. The only 386 board I've tried that won't accept a different BIOS or post with a DLC installed.

No idea on the keyboard controller. The EISA slots work with 8-bit and 16-bit ISA cards.

I think the main reason you'd run FreeDOS is for FAT32, and apparently there are more than a few DOS programs that don't like it. Personally I'd stay with MS-DOS with FAT16 (2 partitions), or if you want to be cool you could try PC DOS 2K or Caldera DR-DOS. I really like DR-DOS, but mainly for my …

I have a Make It 486 adapter coming which has a TISXLC2-50 an a VRM. I'd really like to get one of these yamaichi test sockets to replace the CPU on the upgrade board...but so far haven't been able to find any.

I've never heard of an EPROM being damaged simply by removing it, unless you phsyically break the chip or the glass window has been exposed to UV. They're not particularly sensitive to static either. I've had EPROMs sit outside for years that are still readable. If it suddenly died, it must have …

Is it possibly 640x200 with 16 colour dithering like what Sierra did with some of their games? That mode gave very convincing almost VGA quality results.

You can get special controller cards with their own BIOSes to use four floppies on a PC. I have one of these cards, unfortunately I have never tried with more than two floppies at a time. I remember buying from JDRmicro, and the brand is "MCT".

I recommend getting a 1542CF. It's identical to the 1542CP expect that it has a centronics connector rather than the HD50. I have no end of trouble with HD50 cables. The centronics cables are much more reliable. This of course only matters if you plan on using external devices.

I liked Windows 3.x, especially when you added all the extra goodies. I also really liked NT4, and to a lesser extent 2000. I like to dual boot NT4 and DOS/Win3 on my retro systems (if they are up to the task).
