Trio64 is a card that benefits greatly from 2mb, because with only 1mb you are cutting bandwidth in half. Not sure if DOS is affected or not. Basically with any 64-bit card you want to make sure you don't have less than 2mb.

Even with the interleaving in Windows it was average at best compared to 64-bit accelerators.

I always thought that the ET4000/w32i could not do deinterlaced mode at 1024x768...wasn't that one of the main features of the ET4000/W32P (along with PCI support)?

*Some* of the S3vision boards (the ones that use DRAM) can work at 50MHz. I heard S3 968 does not handle it well. I am too affraid to fry my card trying.

The motherboard in question isn't a M396F by chance is it? I used to have a 40MHz one, and it was really not bad as far as 386SX boards go (would have been great with some cache though). I always wondered what it would have been like to desolder the CPU and stick on an SXLC-40.

Your BIOS ID strings indicates that you actually have a "SARC" brand chipset. Cyclone is probably just some rebranding. As far as I can remember Sarc was actually part of PCchips.

There is a card called "Sound Blaster Live 24-bit" that comes in low profile. I used this card for quite some time, but I did not test the dos compatibility.

Uh, I don't think an SX33 is like a DX25 with L2 cache. SX systems very rarely had L2 cache (though they do exist, and I have one). I would guess an SX40 with no cache might be more like a DX25. This question is best answered in my VL/EISA Pentium thread, but yes I tested it. The results aren't good. There seems to be a BIOS incompatibility. Even with real Pentium chips the L2 cache is automatically disabled. With any kind of K6 chip the system doesn't even POST.

https://th99.bl4ckb0x.de/m/C-D/35867.htm There are one hell of a lot of jumpers for setting the CPU on this board. Did you remember to change them for the 486DLC? JP31 and JP53 are the only different settings I can tell between 386 and DLC.
