Regarding Descent, OPL3 and "slowed down" sounding music. One possibility is that there is something incorrect about Descent's sound setup routine. Other Vogons members have noticed this issue, on a variety of hardware configurations.

Ah pity - I don't have any VLB boards any more. 🙁 I "standardised" on PCI a couple of years ago. I think Vogons user BastlerMike has lots of graphics cards. Perhaps he would be willing to bench some of his (VLB) graphics cards using PCPBench?

I got another ESS AudioDrive card, but it sucks. The card has a poor onboard wavetable ROM. The sound effects and FM music were good however.

Actually, I reckon these test results will be approximately the same, if you used most PCI 486 boards. I used an Asus PVI-486SP3, with 32 MB of FPM RAM, and a Number Nine S3 video card. This slowdown problem is interesting. It seems to affect different soundcards, on different systems. Perhaps the problem is due to the sound card software setup.exe routine these 2 Descent games use?

Their tech support team emailed me back, and said "try it again", and I did and it worked. 😀 I'm using multiupload at the moment, and it seems really good. In the future, I might use both multiupload and mediafire.

I used only one CPU for every test, an Intel SX-33, and set the mobo's bus speed to 25, 33, and also to 40. I used an S3 PCI video card for all tests.
