Re: Very Old Games On New Systems?

in Milliways
Only think I feel needs some major overhaul is the search system. Finding old posts is a huge hussle! Something that I do when searching VOGONS (as well as when I search for posts ON ALMOST *ANY* other message forum on the Internet): http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q="exact phrase search"+site: …

Re: Sound card trouble.

Wait so re name or replace FOOTSTEP.16 to FOOTSTEP.VOC and CT-VOICE.16 to CT-VOICE.DRV Correct :) ...and a bit of further explanation/instruction for *other* Sound Blaster cards: For a standard Sound Blaster (8-bit non-Pro): Copy CT-VOICE.SB to CT-VOICE.DRV, and FOOTSTEP.SB to FOOTSTEP.VOC. For a …

Re: Very Old Games On New Computers?

in Milliways
I'm really not that much of an oldbie here, only discovering VOGONS when I first discovered DOSBox after building up my current WinXP rig (of course, trying to get my old games running under Windows XP ). But, I welcome the retro hardware discussion. Anyone who knows me knows that I *LOVE* old retro …

Re: Easiest way to duplicate 9x on "new" harddrive?

in Milliways
'm not 100% (as I've never looked for it before), but I wouldn't be surprised if someone hasn't already coded a plugin for Windows Commander (Total Commander) to do just that. Hmmm... found these plugins for WC/TC here -> http://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm : -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "IMG(1)" Open floppy …

Found 1 util that's as easy as what I wanted, Winimage! I'm not 100% (as I've never looked for it before), but I wouldn't be surprised if someone hasn't already coded a plugin for Windows Commander (Total Commander) to do just that. I have a slew of plugins that I've downloaded and installed for WC …

Re: Easiest way to duplicate 9x on "new" harddrive?

Cheers! This was exactly what I was looking for! Superb :) Yep, that's how I did backups back in my (not too long ago) W98SE days, and was BY FAR the easiest way to do a full system backup :) In my W98SE PCs at the time, I had two removable hard drive "caddies", and I didn't even have a "working" …

Re: Sound card trouble.

This is just a guess, but after having a look at the ZIP from the link in the dez for the video ( http://tinyurl.com/sb16demo ), it appears to be a file that I uploaded here at Vogons some time ago. Anyhoo, that ZIP file contains several versions of the "CT-VOICE" driver file (CT-VOICE.DRV), as well …

Re: Easiest way to duplicate 9x on "new" harddrive?

in Milliways
No reason why that shoudn't work. Back on all of my old W98SE PCs I used to do full hard drive backups like this. I had a spare drive (my backup drive) that I had previously partioned, formatted, and made bootable. Then when I wanted to do a full backup, I'd pop in the backup drive, delete * …

Re: Start menu

Hmmm... seems that NeoSoft has recently removed *ALL* of their older programs and utilities from their web site at http://www.neosoftware.com . DAMN... the end of an era! They must have recently (only within the past few months or so) discontinued their older product line, and utilities and …

Re: Start menu

If you're such a "winhead", why do you want some menu that runs within DOSBox, anyway? Eggsactly. That's what I don't understand... he wants an easy-to-use menu system akin to the easy-ness of a batch file (minus the batch file coding/editing), but doesn't like the Windows sort-of-look-alike QM3? : …

Re: Start menu

@leileilol, "Quiver" in yer pic :) Hehe, I used to describe that oldie as "poor man's Quake" :) Found PAS confusing. !_! Seriously Guy, any new program that someone hasn't used before; they'll have to sit down and actually learn how/figure out how to use it  Anyhow, like I said before, QM3 :) …

Re: Start menu

P.S. Just stumbled upon this here (over at the "CD Text Files Archives") -> http://cd.textfiles.com/swextrav4/swextrav4-3 … menu/psmenu.zip 😀 I still say that QM3 is the way to go though 😀

Re: Start menu

Can't find PAS And I seriously doubt that you will. I dunno if it was all that popular back in it's day (that's all that we used back when I used to work for Milgo down in Miami (now, simply called "Racal" after they bought Milgo out)... but I don't think that I've EVER heard a mention of it …

Re: Start menu

P.S. Here are screenies of "Point and Shoot v3.0" (the company was "Varteck, Inc."), and another that I just remembered, "Direct Access v5.1" (by "Fifth Generation Systems"). A buddy of mine used Direct Access back in the day (late 80's/early 90's or so), but I never cared much for that one... it …

Re: Start menu

Well, QM3 is a whole desktop, I could've used any other desktop for that. Would Point-and-shoot work properly in DOSbox? Yeah, no reason why it shouldn't. But it too, is a "desktop" menu shell sort of thing... only it has a text-based GUI. The thing is with QM3; it's REALLY easy to set up and …
