FWIW, the Microsoft GS Wavetable Software Synthesizer's "GM.DLS" is essentially a ROM dump of the 1990's Roland sample ROM (SC-55. etc...). BTW, I'm not sure about the AWE32/64s under various OSs, but the SBLive with the last/final drivers under Windows XP can natively load DLS format sound banks. …

my (also DOS) game midi archive is huge :p Same here... I've been collecting MIDIs (as well as being a MIDI musician in one form or another) since 1990 or so. Got cazillions of them ... and LOTS of game rips :) There's an XG-ified recording of that song on Youtube. It's pretty awesome TBH! :) …

I currently have a MU50, was that a bad choice for DB50XG compatibility? An MU50 (as well as the Yamaha S-YXG50 siftware synthesizer, with the 4MB ROM installed) is a dead ringer for a Yamaha DB50XG daughterboard... same sound, same effects capabilities :) P.S.
