usually, the board is unstable in situations where it should be. May not work at all. etc. As long as you have a good soldering iron, and a bit of patience, it is a rather easy process to recap a board.

I'm in the same boat buddy. But i'm using an old 8800GT. Doing anything more complex than windows is just torture on this card. I have the crappy 256mb version and with my screen resolution of 2560x1600, it just destroys the card. But I can post on Vogons, so I got that going for me, which is nice. …

A legit way, is to buy a $5 computer from your local thrift store. Use its COA sticker. I personally just pirate it and be done with it.

Actually its perfectly legal to download windows. Any version with a serial key. As long as you have your own cd key.

In experience, regulators are typically all or nothing. bad caps is MUCH more likely.

yes, but 4x is the fastest for slot 1. most slot 1 boards were 2x. 8x wasn't a thing until 2003+ ( P4 & athlon xp)

2000 and newer, yes. You can on NT as well, but some games wont work.
