If you want to make it harder and cooler, look for slot-A instead. My Voodoo2 setup is an AMD 1ghz slot A setup. Runs fast. All I need to find is a goldfinger device and Alpha heatsink.

I have a similar setup. I figure my 8C/16T @ 3.9Ghz system is going to be plenty for even multiple 480's.

Honestly if someone offered me $1000 cash for my slot-2 setup. I would still turn them away. I might think about it for a few seconds, but I don't see myself letting mine go ever.

All the major game engines coming out in the future will be Vulkan enabled. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API)#Game_engines Green team can suck it.

voodoo 3 is cheap and easy. do that. its very good on dos and windows, Its the perfect card to cut your teeth on.

I have one of the intel i840 boards. VERY nice board, but the hassle of RD ram with this chipset really turns me off.

voodoo 2's will work with a K6-3 setup. But will perform better on higher pentium 3. This was a weird time for computer games. 3d was a uncharted wilderness. what games do you want to play? Once you answer that, the rest will fall into place.

Same advice on SS7 boards. Stick with the name brands. I have several Asus P5A boards and all are wonderful to use, but pricey.

No problem. Once you start using 2000 or xp, you can cram as much ram into the system as you want. And those systems like ram.

Holy cows... That is INSANE! You should see my garage... ^.^ but seriously STAY AWAY from dual cpu boards if you plan on playing games pre-xp. Its expensive, and not worth the extra money, time and effort. That said, I'm a masochist and I love dual CPU systems. Build a basic system, THEN "upgrade".

very good, but win98 sometimes has problems with more than 512mb of ram. if you have issues, drop down to 512mb and try again. if you TRUELY want to dive into the deep end of slot 1 dual cpu boards: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121942662629

NT 3.51, 4.0, 2000, and XP. None of those OS will play well with voodoo 2's.

Watch the video I posted, thats a VERY nice setup for what your looking to do. Granted it isnt "Slot 1" but it will be much cheaper and easier to build.

I got the ati 480. The future is dx12 / vulkan and the 480 will be king of those games. Took me almost 3 weeks to get one. Plus the future option of crossfire and it was cheaper made it an easy decision.
