You can run the cpu for just a minute without the heatsink. The heatspreader is massive. Long enough to post really.

Ooo! Set a logon password and see if they can bypass it and save my picture of my grandsons, and i dont remember i actually saved the pictures on a different computer. Then I wont pay you for it. Thats my favorite.

A good power supply is going to be different per motherboard. Some boards will draw high 5v. Others will feed from the 12v. The latter being a preferred board, because all new style power supplies are centered around 12v. Slight tangent, but i do find it slightly humorous how we've gone full circle …

Windows 98 does not like some file character names. For example ALT+255 shows up as a blank space in win98, but the file system cannot access it. Dos can, strangely. Check the file names.

Well, it gets a LOT of traffic, thanks to bit-torrent. It also has other functions, such as print, web, boot, encrypted storage, router. So it may not use 100% of 2x 3.8ghz xeons, but it is constantly working.

I have a separate computer as a file server, using windows 2003 server. it works perfectly for all file sharing needs. 2003 is still compatible with EVERYTHING including dos, even macintosh. it makes good use of my dual p4 xeons. Its the way I go, and it works for me.

realistically speaking, pci caps at ~100MB/s. new sata2 hard drives have NO problem saturating this. There really isnt a problem here. pci was created because video took up SO MUCH of the isa bandwidth. Then AGP did the same for ISA. It took a relatively long time before all the other parts caught …

I literally have a PILE of 320gb sata drives with ide/sata converters. They work just fine in everything i've ever used. Bios limits notwithstanding, they worked fine even on 386 machines.
