Post the contents of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, someone here should be able to sort them out. 😉 In the meantime, see if your games run correctly when you boot "clean". Hold shift when you're booting up to do this.

I think this originated on 4Chan's /vr/ board. They're mainly console-oriented, though they do have a fair number of threads about retro PC gaming. I like it better than most of the other boards, though being 4Chan there are still the occasional trolls, pervs, and shitposters. 🤣

Perhaps your PSU or your motherboard are giving up the ghost. I once threw out a really nice 486 system I had because it started crashing whenever I played DooM. 🙁 I kept the hard drives and sound card and put them in another 486 box, but it just wasn't the same.

Try Chocolate Doom. It's a sourceport designed specifically to play like the original engine, while adding a few convenient features like better control mapping. It doesn't allow you to bind next/previous weapons though.

Lately I've been playing through The Ultimate Doom using the Chocolate Doom sourceport, and it's pretty awesome. Chocolate Doom is to Doom sourceports what BSNES is to SNES emulators.
