Re: Windows 3.11 on a 386SX

I’ve got Win3.11 running on my 386sx-20 w/ 4mb ram. It’s acceptable, although I find it can handle only the simplest games. Well, it depends on the point of view, I guess. :) I played most games in that era on a 286-12 w/ 4MiB of RAM and was satisfied with the performance. The other specs were a …

Re: Windows 3.11 on a 386SX

Yes, 3.1 was the most common and known version. But 3.11 had bug fixes. There's no reason not to use 3.11. I second that. From what I remember, Win 3.11 was even silently shipped in the normal 3.1 package, simply as an updated disk set. The 3.11 version number was not mentioned in the boot splash …

Re: Windows 3.11 on a 386SX

Hi, I don't see why it shouldn't run fine. 3.1 has a built-in driver for Sound Blaster 1.5 that works. :) The AVGA2 needs a driver maybe, if you need more than Standard VGA. Other than that.. For maximum HDD performace, you can try Microhouse driver. http://win31.de/edrivers.htm To make Windows 3.1 …

Re: VGA games with only 16 colors

in DOS
Theme Hospital is definitely not 16 colours. Thanks for the information my friend! :) I was looking by the screen shots and the "Resolution:" information at dosgames.com. The screenshot that I saw hinted for dithering (watch the gras and the coloured bar at the bottom) and "lower than 256c" colour …

Re: How to install WDM driver on W98

in Marvin \ Sound
But WDM support was only introduced in Win98 SE, so if you are running Win98 first edition, that option will not be available. I'm speaking under correction, but I believe in parts it also was in 98FE already, although in its infancy and not really usable. Akin to USB support in Windows 95, which …

Re: EARLIEST CD-ROM Drives that could Read CD-R's ???

in Milliways
Reading ability depends more from the CD-R disc itself than from the drive. Some old CD-Rom's read only Memorex and Fujifilm CD-R disks, but refuse Verbatim, TDK and other brands. Exactly, I don’t remember any surefire way to predict what cdr is readable and when. One company insisted on providing …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

With an emulated SID (it *is* emulation, no idea why you say it isn't), you don't need the card at all. Software SID emulation on a fast PC is also way better than these ARM-based replacements, because these are made for usage in a C64 and are hence limited in size and power consumption. Well, your …
