Re: Another question about Windows XP videocard

in Windows
W7 was based on Vista and I would put them in the same era🤷‍♂️ It.. Depends. Windows XP was superseded by 7, not Vista. Vista and XP ran side by side for a long time, with XP being slightly ahead. Users with powerful hardware could benefit from Vista's offerings, though. Vista surely was both a …

Re: Another question about Windows XP videocard

W98 third party support was dropped very fast after XP released. 2006 is the release of the G80 GPU and the G70 already wasn't supported and for the NV40 Windows 98 was an afterthought. Back then many people adopted XP even on Pentium 2 era PCs. Hi, I don't deny this. On the other hand, both …

Re: Another question about Windows XP videocard

in Windows
No, XP came out 2001 and that era ended in 2007 with Vista. Debatable. Vista never really had an era of its own. XP mainstream support lasted until 2009 and extended support until 2014 and was essentially unchallenged until Windows 7. I think the same. If we consider how much 98SE and XP were …

Re: Using pcem with a XP guest

in PC Emulation
Just run XP bare metal if you need it, I do that for my Ryzen 5950X system. Hi there! I think it's possible to run XP itself just fine in emulation per se. It can run on about the same hardware as Windows 98SE, after all; they were released two years apart, merely. In fact, there's a screenshot of …

Re: Using pcem with a XP guest

PCem shines more on getting Win9x to work better than a virtualizer since it emulates more varied 90s hardware from the time Except Virtual PC, I think. I have several versions tested, including their emulator versions on Power Mac (with Voodoo 1 or 2 pass-through). The partially broken SB16 …

Re: Which Gotek Floppy emulator for PC WITHOUT a knob?

in PC Emulation
Ok I just bought the one I linked with the buttons. Not enough space for the knob in my case unfortunately. Thanks! You're welcome. ^^ I wish you much success. If you have any further questions about FlashFloppy or the Gotek, please let me know. Even though I can't guarantee that I always have an …

Re: Best Performance Config for PCem

in PC Emulation
Later CPUs aren't an easy task to emulate while avoiding slowdowns. I think the same. That's why a simple, but quick CPU design can be worth a try. Or in other words, the complexity of the real CPU in real life would eventually lead to improving performance. However, emulating said complexity in a …

Re: DOS 3.3 use with larger than 32MB HDD

in DOS
Hm. There's also PC-MOS/386, still. Older versions, at least, ran on 8086. And can execute DOS applications, of course. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtHNEUEF2Iw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YkAVojQbi4 MOS also supported a proprietary partition type which broke the 32MB barrier. Partitions …

Re: Tass Times in Tonetown - Joystick

in DOS
Hi Riikcakirds! Really glad to hear it works now! In the mean time I was searching for a solution and did read a scanned copy of the Tonetown news paper! The articles were really funny and the English language, too. As if it was from another dimension or something. As for the problem, I …

The Muppets at IBM

in Milliways
Hi everyone, Just found another interesting/weird link. https://www.technologizer.com/2010/05/31/ibm-muppets/ It's about how the Muppets helped advertising IBM products. Poor Rowlf. I couldn't stop laughing, though! Have fun. ^^ Jo22

Re: Roland MT-32 digital output

in Marvin \ Sound
i think the simplest sample is the best, e.g. square wave. yes, square wave (or sinus wave), make sense to me too. I found here "Square Wave" midi file for SC-88: +1 Square waves make good harmonics in analogue circuits (audio, radio frequency). So they're good candidates for testing filters.

Re: Best Performance Config for PCem

in PC Emulation
In the past, I ran Windows 98SE on real 486 PCs and early Pentiums. Pentium 75 to Pentium 133. Pentium 166 MMX was the lowest PC I ran Windows XP SP0/SP1 on (official minimum requirement). Windows 98SE fits somewhere in-between those two extremes, I think. Windows 98SE, in its role as an "OS", …
