Re: OPL2LPT

Edit: Ah! It's an Win64 application ?! If so, then never mind, it wouldn't run there anyway. No, it's a 32bit one. :) inpoutx64.dll was not working, so I had to do do it as a 32bit application. :) My original plan was to size it for 1024 * 768, but I run out of space on the window. :D Hi there! …

Re: Current status of VirtualBox's legacy support

in PC Emulation
Personally, this worries me a bit. The statement is a bit hollow, I think. The specs of the test system are not just vague, but unknown, even. . I think that one of the main pros of (2D/GDI) hardware acceleration would be in emulation, where e.g. the native Windows rendering code would be run under …

As for Windows 9x... There is this already released driver for video : https://www.os2museum.com/wp/windows-9x-video-minidriver-hd/ . The post says "The driver uses a linear framebuffer and supports 8/16/24/32bpp modes with resolutions up to 1920×1200 pixels (see more below). The driver is not …

MemberA2600 let me know, he is working on a Video Game Music Player for the OPL2LPT sound card on modern Windows. see https://github.com/MemberA2600/OPL2LPTVGMPlayer screenshot.png It looks very good, there's just one minor complain, maybe: The resolution is a bit over 1024x768 (1.025×858).. It the …

Re: 8bit PVGA1A OEM VGA for Olivetti. Drivers ?

in Marvin \ Video
Hi there! I think I've got the same card in the attic somewhere! It's a nice antique, cool for testing purposes. If you change the Olivetti VGA BIOS to a generic PVGA1A BIOS, it should work. Tips: - The Paradise Professional VGA (PVGA1A) is similar to the later WD90C00. Other revisions exist (1B, 1C …

Re: World Wide Web support in Win 98SE & ME in 2023

in Milliways
Yeah, because malware authors are very concerned about security and support recent operating systems only. I'm sure they also follow Microsoft's recommendation and stop supporting older systems once they go EOL. Of course, they do use the most current Visual Studio releases for best user experience …

Ah, that's cool! Reminds me of my parallel port experiments with Win 3.x/9x and Visual Basic back then! On Windows NT, PortTalk or Port.dll can help accessing the LPT ports. The programs using it can still be 9x compatible, afaik.

Re: Win98: more than one video card

in Marvin \ Video
The Elsa Gloria XL had both an S3 Virge 325 and a Glint/Permedia graphics co-processor on a single PCI board installed. Back in the Windows 98 days, I was able to select both for Direct3D independantly in certain games or benchmarks (Final Reality). Theoretically, an Voodoo card could have been …

Re: Hercules graphics on VGA monitors (mod)

You've got me wondering what happens if you stick one of those 14.375ish Mhz crystals in there, whether it synchs on a TV or video monitor. Then maybe it has overscan?? IDK My head is also going toward the simpler Amiga scandoubler plans and the stuff Grant Searle has done for composite display, …

Hi there! This might be also interesting for some of you with a VGA monitor/LCD monitor. I heard of it a while ago already, but just remembered it while playing with an old astronomy program, MoonCalc, in Hercules mode. https://github.com/schlae/graphics-gremlin Of course, an old ISA SVGA card in …
