Re: Oldest computer mouse comes to museum

in Milliways
To the article writer's defense, apparently, the original press announcement did include a lot of subclauses, so it's easy to loose track. One of the downsides of Germanic languages, I'm afraid. That's why some coders thread them as programming languages. See https://www.golem.de/news/das- …

Re: Oldest computer mouse comes to museum

in Milliways
I did wonder the same when I read it first time. The news was in German originally, I think. - Maybe some foreign press service did the translation one by one, not sure. 🙁 That mouse kind of reminds me of an early trackball, by the way! 😀

Oldest computer mouse comes to museum

in Milliways
Good evening everyone, Just saw this news and thought I should share. https://www.kxan36news.com/oldest-mouse-in-th … the-museum-view I had no idea there was something older than the Xerox thing. 😀

Re: XT speed test?

Found a video of an XT machine (-NEC V20 @8MHz-) running CheckIt..! About 133KB/s were the transfer rate of an old 11MB drive, so it's not that bad, actually. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKVx8Fssmbc Some versions of DOS also run faster than others, I remember. MS-DOS 2.x's boot code could be …

Re: No MIDI Music in early win 3.x and win95 games

in Marvin \ Sound
Hello everyone. Can't get music work in early games under Windows 98. Using SoundBlaster 16 ISA, neither FM or External Midi. Little later games like The Incredible Machine 3 is working fine, Midisoft Studio program also good and it's using Midi Mapper as well as early games as I understand. Later …

Re: Best way of debugging Win16 programs on 64-bit Windows?

in PC Emulation
Interesting, thanks for mentioning it. Also saw your blog - Btw, there also was a WinMem32 API in Windows 3.1 which could be used for writing flat-memory apps (thus dropping 286 support). I haven't found much information of it, but you can check its presence in Byte Magazine May/92 , p.24, if you …

Re: Slow games on Windows 3.11 with S3 Trio 3d/2x

Hi, DOS games on Windows 3.1 can be troublesome since there are timing issues. Try to create/change the PIF files for your games. Open PIF-Editor and play with timer emulation and exlusive option. Here are a few more threads that come to mind. Maybe they are useful to you. Games in pure DOS vs Win …

Re: MS DOS 6.22 / 7 HDD performance enhancement.

There's this XHDD /XDVD/UHDD/UDVD driverpack for dos, supporting DMA and buffers in XMA. (Edit: Small edit. Line with question removed, as I have no desire being sued. ;) ) I guess I shouldn't mention this, but I vaguely recall there once was a unlovely conflict with one author of the accelererated …

Re: Does anyone else prefer ME over 98?

From what I can remember, I found the opposite. Sure, we all know what it was like when a driver would brick a Windows 98 install and you'd end up wiping the hard drive all over again just to get it stable, but Win98 would run perfectly fine for a year or more. My only experience with WinMe …

Re: "De-noising" Sound Blaster cards

in Marvin \ Sound
I wonder if there are comparison types of the SB16 DAC. So far, I haven't found much information in this regard. When searching for the AK4501-VS, for example, basically all that showed up was a PDF file for an old (but top of the line) radio transceiver (see p.148). https://www.qsl.net/ok1mkq/ …
