Sorry for intruding this thread, but didn't a few APIs or buffers for Cut&Paste exist in the past ? I vaguely remember that Windows/386, DESQView and MS-DOS Shell/Editor/etc. had such a feature. Not sure if my memory plays tricks on me, though. 😅

Hi, I don't know the answer to your question, but may I ask why you need to change the default order ? - If it's only about booting, there's a utility called boot_b. It will create a bootable diskette for your a: drive that redirects to drive b:. Worked on my XT clone, too. 😀

By the way, there's some other possible compatibility problem that might occur. Some Windows 3.x programs consumed a lot of system resources. Under some circumstances, these programs couldn't run on the somewhat larger Windows 95, since the resources (GDI, etc.) still were limited to the same 64KiB. …

Some of these Mystery/Cyber Punk genre type games (Noir, Myst, Robot City, Daedalus Encounter, etc.) were on Win 3.1, too. - If you're looking closely, Windows 3.1 had much more than Skifree and Chip's Challenge. 😉
