Re: Was GM a thing in the 486 era?

in Marvin \ Sound
In 1995, I had got a 286 with CD/16-Bit sound running DOS6.2/Win3.1. In 1995, my father had got a 386DX40 w/ 16MiB running Win95 RTM. And a 486 laptop w/ 4MiB, DOS6/Win3.11 and a monochrome LCD. I haven't seen an actual Pentium PC until '98-99 (at the house of a schoolfellow ?).

There was Flea86 but it's been discontinued. As far as OP's question, could they? Yes. Would they? No. The demand for vintage hardware rounds to zero on the scale required for it to be profitable. Regarding the cost of such a chip, I'm curious, as well. On the other hand, official MPU-401 support -along with support for the Gameport- got years ago dropeed with Win Vista. While it might be possible to fix that on 32-Bit Windows, 64-Bit releases would require another solution. Maybe a cheap USB …

^VBS.. It's called VBS (CVBS or Composite without colour). ;) What it stands for isn't completely certain, though. Some say Video, Blanking, Sync, others say Video Baseband Signal. I prefer the later, since it is the kind of signal VHF/UHF modulators were fed with. (In German, sometimes abbreviated …
