Re: One MIDI device too many..?

in Marvin \ Sound
I heard of the SC-88 Pro because of Virtual Sound Canvas 3 (Edirol VSC 3).. It's implementation is the one which is buggy/which one's MIDI map is off (sound effects in place of instruments). At least in my copy (orig. boxed copy). The normal SC-88 and the SC-55 seems fine, though.

root42 wrote: The thing that makes CGA interesting is probably the composite color mode. However this only works in NTSC, so us Europeans are already not that much interested Um, why not ? Our TV sets are multi-norm since a while. They support NTSC/PAL/SECAM and their spinoffs (PAL60, NTSC50).

All digital, I think. Besides, there had been several variants of the Motorola : Synertek 6845E, SY6545, MC6545, Rockwell 6545, MC6847, Hitachi HD46505, HD6845SP, HD68A45 , MC6845P, AMS40489, UM6845, UM6845R, CM607P , CAST C6845 MDA/CGA/HGC/EGA/VGA/SVGA/TIGA Overview (TU Chemnitz) Other CGA/Motorola …

Re: Expert (WD Paradise) 2300H Vga card upgrade

Hi, the WD90C00 chip is comparable to the PVGA1A or PVGA1B chip, I think. At least software wise it's very close. From what I've seen, the old PVG1A drivers do work fine on the WD90C00, too. Same goes for the 800x600 SVGA video mode. I'm speaking under correction, but 512KiB should be possible with …

Re: dualbooting Windows 3.1(and dos) with 95?

Well, yes, that's a valid point. On the other hand, how are users supposed to know about these details ? Using long file names does neither harm a FAT16 partition, nor a DOS 6.x installation, for example. (In contrast to Windows for Workgroups 3.11, which uses an early form of VFAT by default.) To …

Re: bad EGA on modern cards?

I wonder the same. It doesn't make sense that CRTC logic is still implemented in silicon, if the whole purpose of VGA/VGA text-mode in these days is to allow for installing an operating system that has no special drivers during the installation process. Even VBE is nolonger as relevant as it was …

Re: dualbooting Windows 3.1(and dos) with 95?

^More than 15 years ago, I ran Win98SE as my day to day OS, but kept a copy of Windows 3.10 in a separate directory. I ran that old copy of 3.10 from time to time, if required. Perhhaps it's just my memory, but I don't remember that I had such a trouble with it. Maybe it was because I wasn't using …
