Re: RTC as a sound chip / tone generator ?

in Milliways
Thank you very much for the quick and precise explanation, Scali! ^^ I've always wondered about these details. For some reasons, other platforms sounded more melodic to me when using the 8255/8253 speaker. Even Windows 3.x platform. To name an example, one game that took my attention was "Jiji and …

The newer releases of Comet Busters! also used WinG and the WaveMix thingy. (The original version used plain GDI and ran on my old 286!) http://www.win3game.com/

Re: RTC as a sound chip / tone generator ?

Thanks a lot for your reply! :) [ And if so, could it be used as a tone generator ? I do not believe the frequency is high enough to do anything. Plus the timer chip in the XT and AT already do that. They are connected to the speaker and generate proper frequencies. What do you think the RTC can do …

Re: Win98se essentials for gaming ?

- Connectix Virtual PC 4.1 for Windows To run a real OS. Such as Windows 2000 or XP! 😁 (Just kidding. It's not even sure that VPC can run on 98SE. Official Host-OSes required for VPC are Me, 2K, NT4 SP6. Yes, Me. It can't be that bad if it can run a virtualizer, can it ?)

These soundcards had no native DOS support and required the games to run in a DOS box in Windows in order to be played with sound/music. Maybe these VXDs are not that hardware-dependand …

Re: Win3mu Soon OpenSource

in PC Emulation
Thanks, man! Do you know if it runs Win2 games properly now ? In another thread, danoon improved his Boxedwine by using newer code. This also helped to properly emulate klotz, a Win3-aware Windows 2.x game. The menu bar became visible, for example.

Re: What kind of green phosphor CRT monitor is this?

in Milliways
Hm, good question. There's a brand's emblem on the lower center on the monitor. Unfornatunately, I can't make it out. Also, the monitor has a protective glass attached to it. Maybe that's the one to "blame" for the special looking greens, not sure. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing! 😀
