Re: Art of CGA

in Marvin \ Video
Would it be easy to convert a 16 color bitmap to cga becuase thats all I can make in my program For completeness, there's also a CGA utility called imgconv (see dr.zeissler's CGA thread ) It creates four colour pictures only, though, and requires some manual editing for good results. It can't …

Re: Sound Blaster 2.0 project & IRQ from OPL2

in Marvin \ Sound
Cool project! :D ALL playback-related DSP commands (even rarely used ones) to maximize compatibility with software that use the card for playback. Also the Thunder Board DSP commands ? ;) Thunderboard was a decent SB 1.x/2.0 clone, but also had few extra DSP commands. Nothing spectacluar, but if you …

Re: DVI/DOS problem

in Marvin \ Video
I'm not 100 percent sure, but I believe DVI is 60Hz/120Hz/240Hz only. So some DOS games -those using 320x200 mainly-, won't work via DVI, since they rely on 72Hz/75Hz/.. refresh rates.

Re: How to "Mount" in Windows 10 ??

in DOSBox General
Also be careful with paths that include a space, as in C:\Users\Joe Everyone\Documents\DOSBox. In that case, just type the path in quotes. Mount C "C:\Users\Joe Everyone\Documents\DOSBox" Alternatively, you can also use a relative path. If you have a folder named DOS in the DOSBox directory, just …

Re: Windows 1.0 (one-dot-zero)

in Windows
Hello everybody! Hi Jens! :) I'm running Win 1.0c from 1986. When starting, the screen is full of random ASCII symbols (is that normal?). With beeping sounds ? Yes. It also happens with Windows 2.x if you are using DOS 5/6. ver set 4 cd windows ver set win100.bin 3.34 win.com is the first ver for …

Re: Whats the difference DX6 vs DX7

in Marvin \ Video
I couldn't have said it any better. :) The only minor exception to this is/was DX 10 to 11 I believe. There was a time when MS threw out the "cap bits" and required cards to support all DX (D3D?) features in hardware. Anyway, I believe that changed again. That confusing "feature level" story is all …

Re: Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16 ?

in Marvin \ Sound
Yes, that's true, sadly. By the time Windows 95 came, PAS as well as Media Vision were gone. On the bright side, Windows 9x fully supported the PAS16 out-of-box. I remember using my PAS16 well into the 2000s in Windows 98SE. ^^ The Trantor SCSI interface was also supported by the built-in drivers. …

Re: Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Japanese - with Language Pack?

in Milliways
Thanks for the info Joey! This reminds me of a story of a Japanese Sharp X68000 (?) emulator. From what I heard, the developer in question intentionally built in a locale check to make sure it won't work on non-japanese systems.. I still fail to understand why someone would want to do that, though. …

Re: Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Japanese - with Language Pack?

in Milliways
Afaik, it works for displaying Japanese characters. In Internet Explorer or for text files, for example. For playing Japanese Windows games, you may need the Japanese release of Windows 98(SE). I can't go into details, but some of the Japanese Win98(SE) CDs may also recognize English/International * …

Re: Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16 ?

in Marvin \ Sound
I second that. PAS cards are good ones, but they shouldn't be seen as SB clones. Rather, PAS/PAS16 should be considered as a standard of its own. If you'v got a 286 to 486 machine, the PAS16 will give you clear OPL3 music and average SB 1.5/SB2.0/Thunderboard compatibility. It will also work fine …

Re: Is Win NT 3.51 any good for gaming?

WinNT 3.5 was in no way a gaming OS - but then again Win3.11 hardly was either. In comparison to Win9x, this is likely true. However, Mobygames lists about 1411 games for Windows 3.x. http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/win3x/ :) There was a handful of games that used Win32s and WinG to require …

Re: Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Japanese - with Language Pack?

Hi, you're lucky, I've got that file on my backups. ^^ I downloaded it years ago from the MS site for my Win98SE. Unfortunately, that file is to big for an attachment (~5,3MB). I can send it to you via email, though, if you like. Just send me a PM. Best regards, Jo22 Edit: Good news! :D I noted the …

Re: amateur radio to the moon

Thanks for the info about the Qatari satellites! :) I wish AMSAT the best, too. Speaking of AMSAT, AO-7 from 1974 is still funtional, isn't it ? A few years ago I heard that the batteries became open again and that it works if in sun light. Anyway, I love the build quality of the old birds (see some …
