Re: When will Microsoft finally die?

in Milliways
@dr_st My bad. I'm no native English speaker, so I probably should have used another term. Speaking of telemetry, yes, that's how it should be. Unfortunately, IPv6 and MAC addresses make it quite possible to identify a person's device. Now if a person uses several different accounts, by different …

Re: Resound OPL3 AdLib sound card just released

in Marvin \ Sound
Yes you can completely disable port 388 on an AWE 64 and use another card to provide genuine OPL. For game compatibility you still point the settings to the AWE. Normally FM would play on both cards but through the AWE configuration disable port 388 so fm sound only comes out of the 2nd card I can …

Re: emm386.exe and ems memory

Hi! So you are trying to do that natively on an Athlon64 system ? If so, perhaps there's just not enough free space in the Upper Memory Area (UMA) anymore. -Beginning with the year 2000, mainboards got a lot of integrated peripherals. If you can, try to disable all things you don't need. You can …

^Maybe, maybe not. Neither indifference nor resignation is a solution, though. You don't require things to hide to end up beeing in an at the wrong time in the wrong place situation. You're confusing 'security concerns' with 'rabid paranoia'. I'm not sure about that. Sure, these concerns were around …

Which is also an awesome source for fraud ... considering the last AdLib I've seen on eBay sold for 451€ Sure. But that is probably not really the fault of hobbyists who designed the replica (their aims were rather contrary). These sellers simply make use of the greed of certain types of collectors …

I feel like the current situation is a bit depressing, let's see what the future holds. As far as Windows 10 is concerned, it is the first OS which successfully causes a split-up bewteen Windows users. Ironically, it seems macOS and *nix users tolerate Windows 10 and MS' shift in business policy …

Re: Resound OPL3 AdLib sound card just released

in Marvin \ Sound
I really like the idea. Though I would have had prefered a dual-opl3 card for music (AdlibTracker II). If it kept the default ports for the first opl3 and retained the address scheme for a second, it would have allowed for some fancy 4op songs. In the end, this would have been allowed someone to …

Re: Increase memory of a video card in DosBox?

in DOSBox General
Still wonder where the 2MB limit came from, though. Limits of the VESA specs, etc., maybe ? But according to the VBE 2 specs , the highest modes each are 11Bh, 1280x1024, 16.8Mcols and mode 107h, 1280x1024, 256cols. PCem says an -emulated- Trio32 supports 2MB, while Trio64 and S3 Vision864 support …

Re: Sampo computer

Most of the Taiwanese PC makers were just your bog-standard PC clone makers and typically while Sampo might be the brand, and being Taiwanese may have made the case and power supply, maybe even the motherboard too depending, it most likely has parts from all over the place running chips from all …

Re: Win7 32 bit

in Windows
Why bother with DOS software in Windows when you can use DOSbox? It emulates all common graphics cards, sound cards and ports old software expects. I think, this topic was about native 16 bit Windows software. And those should work with any 32 bit Windows. Yes, they should. What I like about DOSBox …
