Re: Internet Browser on 386SX?

in Windows
tokyoracer: What about Mosaic Internet Browser , or is that only a Win32 browser ? Yeah that look pretty good thanks il give that a try. :) Like I said i'm not expecting it to work well, it's really for old and/or simple site browsing. Plus it's just out of interest. It'll make use of the Network …

Davros wrote: did you know the sb awe64 cd contains i.e 2.0 I think you can still download old IE installers on the OldApps website. Edit: Oh wait it only goes down to 4.0. I got 3.0 for Win3.1 anyway so I would think that would run on 386SX without too much issues.

I understand that old, text and javaless browsers wont look pretty on modern internet sites but its really out of curiosity more then anything. Plus there's a few abandon sites that id like to see anyway. 😀 Davros wrote: what o/s are you using Oops I should have said really. Windows 3.1.

Re: Internet Browser on 386SX?

Thanks for the responses guys, a text based browser huh? Didn't think of that but sounds pretty interesting. Lynx does look rather good and after some research I have found some info about Arachne and saw someone on YouTube had it running on his 386, though it's hard to tell on a video how fast it …

Internet Browser on 386SX?

in Windows
I'm in the process of getting hold of an ISA Net card (with RJ45) and it got me thinking about net browsing. It's really only for general interest and nothing serious but what are the options for a 386SX @ 25Mhz? I know that technically Internet Explorer 4 and 5 would work despite advertising …

Re: ISA RAM card help.

If I come across an old Soundblaster I might give it a try. I just still don't know what i'm going to do with this RAM issue. Maybe its an unusual type of RAM I was trying out since although there are 9 chips on it (which is quite normal), they are all more-or-less matching. No chip on the far left …

Re: ISA RAM card help.

Thanks for the responses guys, I have tried some 30pin 4Mb Parity SIMMs but it just comes up with a RAM error upon posting. ATM it has 4x 30pin 1Mb Parity SIMMs installed which works fine. I know the 4Mb sticks work fine since I have tested them on another machine. I didn't think about the RAM card …

ISA RAM card help.

I'm tempted to use up a valuable (but rather limited) ISA slot in my Amstrad MegaPC. I looked at all the options and since a soundcard won't work, a GFX card would be a bit pointless and I can't seem to get my RJ45 network card working so I thought of using an ISA RAM card instead. My question is …

Re: 387 Co-Processor, where can I find one?

Does the Mac version of Doom use the FPU? I suppose it's possible, but I've run it on '040 Macs both with and without FPUs, and I don't recall any difference in performance or appearance. Macs were sorta in the same boat as PCs in that regard anyway, only the really high-end ones had FPUs, until …

Re: 387 Co-Processor, where can I find one?

A few months ago or so, I got hold of an Amstrad Mega-PC and see there's a socket for a Co-Processor (FPU?). After some google'ing I discoverd what I am actually after is a Intel i387 Co-Processor (preferbly at 25Mhz). I'm curious as to why you would want one as well..Unless you have an application …

Re: 387 Co-Processor, where can I find one?

If you're sking for a chip, chances are price will be higher then buying from someone who's posting a selling topic. Another hint:Some of the members there have posted trade lists with hundreds of chips. Many are much cheaper then what you pay on the bay :P My experience is that theres always a …

Re: 387 Co-Processor, where can I find one?

The 386SL was a sort of integrated 386SX + some support logic in a single package, with some rudimentary power management features. So it's conceivable that there could be something different about a 387SL... however, considering how small a market there was for coprocessors in notebooks, I find it …

Re: 387 Co-Processor, where can I find one?

Good luck with that. They're getting to be almost as hard to find as 68881/68882 co-processors. You may have to scrounge globally to find one. I am in US and had to go to a German seller to get a 68882 chip for one of my Mac upgrades. There is a seller on ebay called IC-China. Try him first and …

Re: 387 Co-Processor, where can I find one?

@ Old Thrashbarg, Thanks for the info. I got a few extra key searches to open my options. @ Tetrium, I might just do that, thanks. :) @ Markk, Great find! It does'nt have to be Intel really, just would be nice to have a posh matching Co-Pro. Aslong as it will perform the same as an Intel one I might …
