Re: These all in theory fit the same socket

in Milliways
I found the thread on Vogonswiki marked as interesting and i think very valuable.(see Tetriums signature) So i wonder why it hasnt received more attention over the years! ;) Besides this, it maybe better to get topic-related information into one thread than spreading it on new threads. Ah, I …

Re: These all in theory fit the same socket

Is bumping 5+ year old threads just a normal thing now?? Did I miss the memo? You mean this memo? :P Yup. But I find it easiest to mount a cooler to a Socket 3 socket with a wire clip Hi Tetrium, Can't find any cheap/used coolers on ebay for a Socket 3. can you go into a little detail on how to …

Re: youtube computer hardware repair videos

in Milliways
I'd be somewhat interested in this myself actually. I did once come across some youtube vid which was basically a music video showing how to reflow some PCI-E graphics card or something lol! I'm pretty sure some of these should exist, perhaps search for something about the recapping of motherboard? …

Re: 2d cards

There is quite a difference in quality of those loop cables though (the cables running from the 2D card to the Voodoo) The cards themselves can make quite a difference as well. Some use high-quality relays (you can hear them click), while others use cheap transistor circuits which affects signal …

Re: 2d cards

I would say 'no', because Matrox cards are renowned for their excellent display quality. This would be completely destroyed when you run it through a Voodoo card with a daisy-chain cable :) Other than that, does it really matter? The 2d card isn't being used in Voodoo games, and the Voodoo card …

Re: 2d cards

I think so. Many people like the Matrox ones for their picture quality and the S3s for their DOS-games compatibility. Personally I'd prefer to go with S3 as I like the extra flexibility but you could simply try both of them. Also there are a LOT of Matrox and even more S3 cards and especially the S3 …

what video card do you have ? do you have spare monitors if its a nv/amd card set up an eyefinity/nv surround display That's a no-go and way too impractical for me. I'd need way more than 10k horizontal pixels lol! I already found an editor which does what I want, but it's a trial and has a couple …

Re: Never enough Pentium 3 builds

Looks very good! :D Especially your first rig, it's quite similar to what I'd build (I'm a bit of a fan of FSP PSUs, especially their earlier ones :P), except I'd put a faster P3 in there (P3-1000 probably) and I'd add a casefan (7-volted fan, as the good rear fan case exhaust should provide good …

Re: My first Pentium MMX build

Do you happen to know more about these? I happen to have one (or one very similar to it) but I don't have the adapter, so I can't even test it lol Looks like Stiletto is absolutely right. It has "(c) 1997 STB Systems Inc." written on the board — sorry, overlooked that. The small square white …

Re: Abit AS8 netburst build

Hi :) Could you post some more pics of your rig? The side panel window isn't something I see often these days and I doubt I have any cases like that myself, that's a nice touch (also that your case is beige) :) Have you checked the insides of your VX550 PSU? Might be bad caps. And does your "new" …

Try the "test drive" version of TSE Pro which I mentioned before - it's free for 60 days and lets you save and all. There's a menu interface, but what you want is more easily done from the command line: "g32 -h -b X [filename]" will open a file in hex mode with a line length of X chars (I just …

Re: These all in theory fit the same socket

The good news is that if your socket has these tabs, you could make your own z-wires. Only thinhg you'd need is a metal wire that's stiff enough that it will keep it's shape and a way to reshape them (I'd think heat them up so you can change the shape, let them cool down so they keep that shape). …
