Re: windows 95 on a 386

in Milliways
I think you were able to use just one of the two simm banks when you installed a dimm. Nowadays I have two boards of that exact model (5va2), and it seems that it's very hard to find a compatible dimm. I've got only 4-5 that it would recognize, and all of them are 32mb... It just won't work with …

Re: windows 95 on a 386

I think you meant to say a S IMM instead of a DIMM ;) A DIMM is basically 2 SIMMs stuck on the same little PCB back to back. Nope, I mean dimm! I had a Soyo 5va2 which has 4 simm sockets and 1 dimm socket. I had 2x4mb edo simms and after a couple of years I bought a dimm, whose price at that time …

Re: Tillamook

If those 2 duo's of pins are connected, think it will make Tillamook work correctly again? I'm tempted to try out myself but am reluctant to go through all the mess in my attic right now to set up a test bench :( And Mystery, great find!! Edit:I'm thinking of putting 2 pieces of papertape (and hope …

Re: Tillamook

Made a new post instead of another edit. I found this in the Pentium MMX (desktop) datasheet: ADS# O The address strobe indicates that a new valid bus cycle is currently being driven by the Pentium processor with MMX technology. ADSC# O The address strobe ( copy ) is functionally identical to ADS#. …

Re: AMI Enterprise motherboard help

I have another question. If I manage to find an ATX case that will be big enough to fit the motherboard, then there is a problem that the power supply will not suitable for the AMI motherboard because the connectors of the power supply are for ATX motherboards. Could I use this to connect the AMI …

Re: windows 95 on a 386

I remember about 1,5 year ago, I had been given an old AT case that had a 486dx/33 board inside with 8mb ram and a 130mb seagate hd. It had the greek version of windows 95 installed, and it was really disappointing... It took ages to load, and was really slow. I think my 386 is faster than that. …

Re: Who else here hoards "insane" amounts of hardware?

in Milliways
Is this insane enough? Doin some sorting of collection, so i took photo of almost all mine cards. So far i tested 232 working cards + still have some that cannot be tested (non pc + few dead ones) or have them in various models. So think it will be about 300+ cards. DOWNLOADED!! :D You mean those …

Re: Tillamook

Just found this in the Tillamook specs from intel: Signals Removed from the Low-Power Embedded Pentium® Processor with MMX™ Technology Signal Function ADSC# Additional Address Status. This signal is mainly used for large or standalone L2 cache memory subsystem support required for high-performance …

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

I like the rubber bands! Those things fix everything. They dry out after a while though, better is to use those iron wires coated with plastic. Well, I like them for their flexibility and strength. It's clearly a provisoric mount as I often change the configuration in this computer. For example, …
