Sometimes defective IDE/sata cables and bad RAMs may mimic data corruption. This is very true. I noticed often the round IDE cables give me odd problems. My favorite browser has been Opera for the last years, ever since I found Firefox to start running more sluggishly. "Studies" like these are fun, but everyone knows how bright they are, noone needs an internet browser for that 😜

I'd ditch the Pentium D and get a Core2 processor. Pentium D is Netburst and not a very good design as far as dual cores go. Core2 is a lot cooler, energy efficient and better performance per clock cycle. I'd also try to get a GTX460 while you still can. If he's already using an x64 OS, then it …
