Re: windows8

The most recent version of Symantec Endpoint Protection (not Norton Antivirus) has a function that warns you if a file you downloaded with a certain MD5/SHA1 digest is known to be malicious, even if it doesn't contain a virus as-such. It does this by submitting the filename and the digest to …

Re: Application that loads DLLs

in DOS
As to the previous comment about our vendor. The conversion route is the one our vendor advocates but its not a simple process. We have to recompile all our software and then modify some of it to fit in with the new environment. Also there is a lot of finding solutions to all the DOS workarounds …

Re: Application that loads DLLs

Really, at this point you need to be talking to your software vendor, and asking for them to pick up their game. Workarounds are no good for mission-critical software. They can't be relied upon.

Re: windows8

This is what patches are issued for. Do you really think with the extended support cycle and the multitude of patches that have been released, that Microsoft hasn't improved multi-core, multi-processor support in all that time? That's one of the features that differentiates between the two.If you want to run more than one CPU, then get Professional. Even today with the number of cores in …

Re: windows8

It is solid and stable, for sure. I had XP x64 on my Q6600 for ages back in the day. I guess the most noticeable improvement is that Win7 is a lot smoother with lots running than XP ever was, it's much clever-er about assigning one application's thread to CPU cores that share cache pools to improve …

tincup wrote: If XP supported Dx10+ what would be the real reason for a gamer to move on anyway? 64-bit? At the very least, vastly superior thread scheduler and memory management. XP is pretty hopeless when it comes to multi-core and multi-threaded CPUs. It's ancient.
