Lucky that the default mode for the DB60XG (and hence XR385) is GM mode. It'll mostly get used to Win95 and DOS games with the enhanced MIDI options available there, and Voodoo1 games on the Pure3D. Windows 2000 went on mainly as a curiosity, and I'll probably try out some Rendition Verite 3D games as well at some stage.

The DVD burner is a stand-in CD drive, it's quiet, and spins up pretty quickly. I had a more authentic Creative 8x CD-ROM drive in there originally, but it packed it in, started throwing "General read failure" errors all over the place.

Actually, on most metrics, MSE pretty much as good as the other free solutions, and destroys them on performance. It's gotten loads better in the last two or three years, that's for sure.
