Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Well I was expecting more of an "oops I completely messed up everything possible in this episode", which is perfectly fine and can happen from time to time, rather than excuses like "it's easy to understand how I missed setting this up" or "but even the main website for the game is using..." trying …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

You should know better than running CGA games in DOSBox without setting machine=cga. Sites like MobyGames are full of plainly-wrong screenshots because of stuff like this. For some reason this is especially true of French games, since every other CGA game made in France seems to use the cyan …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Why are you showing the game on a VGA? Or is this the flash version? This is what the game looks like in real CGA (or machine=cga in DosBox) I didn't realize that... Every screenshot I'd seen ahead of time and even the modernized remakes use the standard CGA palette, not the red/cyan palette! :o …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 222 - PopCorn is online! :D I still find it bizarre how surprisingly hard it is to find this game on legitimate download sites, given that it's always been freeware. :o But yeah, after coming across this in a prior Shovelware Diggers video and finding out it might be free …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 221 - Lords of the Realm is online! So... I suck at this game... I mean REALLY suck at it. XD Making a video about a game you can't get that far into is kinda... interesting. This probably will be one of my least memorable ADG videos since there's not really a lot in the …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Filler #63 - Framerate Jitter? Might Be the Scheduler! is online! I've been holding off on this video for a couple months now to afford myself time to make sure I had all my facts straight because this was something I sorta knew about for years now, but never really investigated …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Perhaps not, even though the font in the story screens is identical in shape and in placing on the screen and the bricks are also identically placed on the screen. But consider how you exit the games, you hit Esc followed by Q for both versions. Imagine's game came first and it appears that Taito …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

A good episode on Arkanoid. There is strong visual evidence to suggest that the Taito version is an enhanced remake of the Imagine version : http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2015/11/arkanoid-and-arkanoid-again.html Hmm... I can't say I agree that they're similar enough to claim the NovaLogic …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Looks like it's time to dig out the debugger and disassembler and figure out from there! Be my guest. My assembly language skills are terrible. :P One thing I can say is that I analysed the high score file too as I had deleted it to reset the defaults prior to starting recording. All the high score …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 220 - Arkanoid is online! I tried, really, REALLY hard to figure out what was up with the powerups in this game. Heck, I spent two hours straight mapping out powerup drops versus the score values and didn't find a correlation considering I was able to get multiple different …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 219 - Blackthorne is online! Also, yet another mature-rated episode with a game that starts with the letter B. Seriously, look at the alphabetical list of videos on my website and you'll see that most of the mature-rated ones start with the letters A through E! http://www. …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

What you get out of something designed to run on a 286 @ 16Mhz. It's kind of impressive they were able to get recognizable video at all. That said, one has to wonder WHY they wanted to support a 286 in 1994 when the vast majority of PC users had already moved up to at least a 386... or it could …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 218 - Who Shot Johnny Rock? is online! With an unboxing! :D Actually, since I was already familiar with Crime Patrol I was kinda skeptical going into this one. Crime Patrol was cheesy, but in an uncomfortable way. This one's cheesy in a delightfully fun way, so I'd …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 217 - Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers is online! So... I chose to play this game entirely on the fact that I was thinking back to my copy of the NES game, which I would play once every couple or three years just for the heck of it 'cause it'd kill an hour and not be too …

Re: Do windows 10 automatic "upgrades" still happen?

in Milliways
Anything you do in Group Policy Editor can be accomplished with regedit if you know the keys the Group Policy Editor is inserting\changing. Unless they dramatically changed that in Windows 10... Nah, Windows 10 still uses registry tables the same as every version of Windows since nearly forever. :B …

Re: Do windows 10 automatic "upgrades" still happen?

in Milliways
BTW: For anyone having problems with Windows 10 Pro auto-restarting at inconvenient times, despite the whole "active hours" thing (which is kinda BS IMHO), you can go into the Group Policy Editor which is hidden away on the system and change a little known setting which prevents automatic restarts …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 216 - Backlash is online! This one's... yeah, I keep using the word "interesting" to describe it because really, it's the best word to do so. :P On the one hand, it's a style of game that's extremely unique and has a lot of pre-rendered graphics and missions for what it is. …
