Re: RSD Game-Maker source code

in Milliways
Oh wow... :O ...yes, I actually am aware of this thing as I played around with it a bunch back when I was a teen as my 2000 shareware games CD has an illegit copy on it. I made a couple games with it but they've long since been lost to the stretches of time as it was before my website existed... if …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Considering what Kris thinks of BioForge, I highly doubt he's going to enjoy Alone in the Dark either (or any of the first three Resident Evil games for that matter).... I have zero interest in the Resident Evil series. As for Alone in the Dark, it's in the top 10 most requested games now so …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 142 - BioForge is online! (Please note that this is a mature rated episode.) Spoilers: This could be the lowest-rated episode of ADG I ever produce. :O ...I do not like BioForge at all. Before going into this, the last time I had played the game was a demo version included …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Just a quick heads-up that the next episode of ADG will be a little later than usual. Normally I try to get my episodes out before midnight, but I'm going to be heading to bed very soon yet I still have all the video editing left to do, so it probably won't be up until around 5 or 6 AM EDT. I would …

Re: Backward compatibility problems with vintage HP laptop

in Milliways
Something's wrong here, how can the installation program be a compatibility problem? I've had installers crash in the past because they're testing the hardware capabilities of the system in question but fail to take into account integer overflows due to the way they perform their tests... or …

Re: Backward compatibility problems with vintage HP laptop

in Milliways
From my experience, ATI/AMD video cards have terrible backwards compatibility so I'm going to guess that could be a factor. :P It's also possible you may simply be using the wrong video drivers. Not necessarily that your drivers aren't up to date, just that they're the wrong ones. Quite often with …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

HOLY CROW!!! Some of the music in Highway Hunter reminds me of the music in Shadow run on the Sega Genesis. http://www.shadowrun.com/forums/discussion/comment/14074 Wish I could listen at work, but why did that come up here? I'm only up to Episode 68 on YouTube thanks to not having the time to get …

Re: Few random questions

in Milliways
1. Never looked into this myself so I have no idea. 2. From what you've described you're probably better off using omni-directional wheel-based systems to roll over the ground along sensor tracks embedded in or under the floor for devices to guide themselves along. For anything travelling along the …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

The Tandy gray-background issue in Starflight has been fixed in the SVN for over a year. Any current build of DOSBox other than the official 0.74 should have the fix. Good to know. :B I don't think Kris stated whether his Test Drive supports Tandy sound, only Tandy video. His parents may have …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Just got the milestone video up on YouTube... and of course, hit by Content-ID because of the video footage of the title sequence for The Sims 3. >_>; ...honestly, because I'm getting numerous times more money from Patreon supporters than from ad revenue I don't really care to stress over the …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Well everyone, that super-special video I mentioned casually at the end of the Staflight episode is up: 1st Patreon Milestone Video! This has been awhile coming, as I hit my first milestone really quickly thanks to a bunch of you guys, but ended up completely stumped as to what could possibly be a …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Actually, the notion that there's two different sleeve releases makes me think back to my first DOS game, Test Drive. I'm fairly certain I have an updated version as I found out a bit later in life that every version anyone knows anything about lacks Tandy 16-colour support and came out in 1987, yet …

Re: 5.25" Floppy Drives

in Milliways
Scroll back a few years and NO ONE was selling 5 1/4" drives for less than $40~$50. :P The only thing you have to be concerned with is WHY you want one and whether it's a 360K or 1.2M drive. The thing is, 360K formatted disks can read and write fine in a 1.2M drive, but anything written by a 1.2M …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

I think I may have an early 360KB 5.25" EGA release, as it came in a tri-fold sleeve style packaging. I think I got it for Christmas 1988 or 1989. The files on disk 1 are dated 7/31/1986 through 1/28/1988, except for a couple of .BAT files dated 1/3/1980. This wouldn't surprise me given what I've …

I've been lurking for a while, but your enthusiasm for old junk is infectious It's clinical; we call it "Retroitus". Symptoms include hoarding electronics, copying files from floppy disks to modern computers, using CRT monitors, and buying larger houses when you run out of space. While it's …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Ancient DOS Games Episode 141 - Starflight is online! ...with apologies to the first gaggle of people to send in guesses as they all guessed Star Control 2 or Elite. I think the first correct guess was the 7th person, or someone around there; I'd have to root through my eMails again and I'm too lazy …
