This is exactly how I now get 3 1/2" floppy disk data onto my Windows 8 system, by transferring it via an ethernet cable directly plugged into the back of my Windows 8 system, into the PCMCIA networking card for my Windows 98 laptop. I kinda find it ironic how much more power those quartz clocks burn compared to keeping the memory in a RAM chip intact for save games. The battery in my original copy of Pokémon Blue is perfectly fine, yet the battery in my original copy of Pokémon Silver has been very dead for a few years now. :P …

All I did was take an old laptop of mine running Windows 98 SE and hooked up an ethernet cable directly from it to my modern Windows 8.1 system. After fiddling with some settings I was able to get them talking and I can now pull files off of my 3 1/2" disks by routing it through my old laptop. :B …
