Re: Software rendering of modern games

in Milliways
You can use Swiftshader or Mesa3D to run the latest games in software on your CPU if you want to test. The latest GPUs are so much more powerful than modern CPUs for these operations that the latest games are unplayable on even an i7 in software. So yeah we'll definetly need a hell of a lot more …

I used to backup CD images to preserve copy protection on my games but it got really really old keeping up with all the different methods....and when a new OS comes out and the copy protection breaks because the copy protection drivers never got updated (or took forever to get updated) I just said …

Re: how enable ems in dos\win 98 + sb issues

in DOS
DOSBox can run on all Windows versions starting with Windows 95 and can be alot better than running the games on a DOS machine. As far as running games in NTVDM on WIndows 7 32bit and why you received the fullscreen error it's because WDDM video drivers do not support this capability anymore. To use …

Re: CD or DVD for backup (or botth)

in Milliways
If you insist on using CD/DVD for backup make sure you are using PAR2 (or similar) http://digitalcave.ca/resources/computer/dvd-backup.jsp. Currently I use the ZFS filesystem on a RAIDZ2 volume so files are as protected as possible while online on my home server. Backups are less protected and not …
