The Fallout 1 CD supports both DOS and Windows. Yep, use Gulikoza's build since he's the maintainer of the glide patch for DOSBox.

Try 2 sessions of DK on your computer networked to each other and see if you can replicate the behavior. The Internet is not a LAN so the game probably can't handle the latency.

None of them do. I just checked VirtualBox 3.0 manual and it's still D3D\OpenGL for XP+ guests. (and OpenGL for Linux/Solaris) Checked the Vmware Technology Preview and it's still for XP+ as well. The full ver of the game has software mode. Demo is glide only. I could never get the full version with glide working in DOSBox with Gulikoza's build. Tried it again last night to be sure.

9x in VM's do not support 3D Acceleration so you'd have to use a software video card emulator like swiftshader (only for DX8/9 games) which is very very slow.

The amount of Windows games that do not work well on modern Windows is paltry in comparison to DOS games. Windows 9x support has slowly been added to DOSBox over time and eventually will likely be fully supported but not any time soon.
