As long as it's a C2D processor DOSBox will pretty much run anything you throw at it. A netbook isn't ideal since the processor is ALOT slower than a regular laptop/desktop processor. It really depends on the types of games you'll be playing, below mid-90's then a netbook is fine. Above the mid-90's …

Use FRAPS for windows games to take screenshots. Some games have built in keys for that.

Forget about VDMSound. It's a dead project. Just use DOSBox. DOSBox emulates a SoundBlaster 16. Install the game in DOSBox as you would in MS-DOS.

Hmm, sometimes if the CD is dirty or bad quality then Autorun can take forever to load. It's probably that. If you can explore the CD and copy the file then you should be good. Found this: But I HAVE Mounted My CD Drive

Why is the "latest CVS" necessary? The latest official version of DOSBox with the patches (which gulikoza provides) should be enough. Reason's it's not in DOSBox: 1. It's not needed for games. 2. Host operating system is better for such a task. 3. No one has provided a patch for this functionality.

The Return to Zork CD image is about 400+ meg. Some games EXPECT CD audio tracks. I can't say if that's the case for Return to Zork but other games have issues with not launching if the Audio Tracks are missing. It always helps to have an original copy.
