Only thing I can think of is to increase memsize in DOSBox.conf Verify that you can write to "C:\" wherever your "C:\" is mounted to in DOSBox. So go to the "C:\" in DOSBox and try to create a file within DOSBox or try to copy a file there in DOSBox.

Yeah, it's really frustrating having VM products that support acceleration.....but no 9x support or this open source wrapper....that has no 9x support. heh. At least Swiftshader supports 9x....(but it's only for DX8/9)

From what I remember VDMSound didn't do affect much. Besides the Start Menu and Add/Remove programs it just added an item to the context menu and a .dll it registers for the launchpad. (If your using the GUI). Oh and possible a variable for the VDMSound path. and of course the files it installs in …

Have you played around with the buffers in DOSBox.conf? Do you have a windows dual-boot on that machine? (To compare DOSBox performance & audio quality)

Nope, you could have DOSBox create a file when done loading (in autoexec) and then have a file/directory monitor on the host. Only way I can think of (without modifying DOSBox of course)

Install it with the free Altiris SVS, that will give you a full log of exactly what is modified on your system and the ability to make it portable.

Are the problems I'm facing due to settings in the game or is an EEE PC simply not powerful enough to play games over 10 years old? Intel Atom is not a C2D, it's not a desktop replacement CPU. DOSBox requires a poweful CPU. (for demanding games) I thought Fate of Atlantis runs fine in ScummVM?

I thought you already had the program? Do you mean the OS? You need MS-DOS or FreeDOS if you are looking for the OS. As for the program you'll have to figure out what you want to run. I can't help you there.

it seemed to me a couple of years ago when I was last able to use VDMS that some games would only work with it, and not with dosbox, is this so? or can dosbox run any program VDMS can with the right configuration? VDMSound doesn't run games, NTVDM does. DOSBox can run far more programs than NTVDM …

If you install the game in Windows but are running it in DOSBox then you need to check the game configuration files and verify that the paths to your game files and the CD files are correct.
