Agreed. While Zip and Jaz (and Clik,) may have been less than reliable, the much older Bernoulli were rock solid reliable.

Definitely a "custom big server form factor" - I've seen a few with similar layout, generally each generation had different standoff configurations, though! Looks like 72-pin SIMMs to me (nasty ones.)

PCjr has a headphone jack on the display, not on the base unit - but the base unit has a standard "RCA" audio output. If I remember correctly, some models of Tandy 1000 have a headphone jack.

On a related note, you've made a small typo in the OP. P3B-L should be P3C-L :) Ah, you are correct. It's confusing, because the version with LAN, SCSI, or both, is the P3C (-L, -S, or -LS,) where the version with neither is the P3B... The P3B is the exact same physical board, just guaranteed …

Something happened to the LS-120 drive. Unplugged it, everything works fine. Plug it in, nada. Even just power. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So, no LS-120 drive. The Teac dual-floppy and the DVD drive both stopped working, too. Floppy drives don't even register, DVD drive spins, ejects, disks don't mount. I'll have to …

The article states that the VLB was P5 compatible, not P6, so if you fixed the timing glitch the best CPU would be VLB was itself basically just an extension of the 486 processor and memory bus. It was "natively" compatible with 486 CPUs - later CPUs needed to have a "translator" in the chipset. …

I got my W98 box all nicely built up. But it was crashing every so often. So I swapped out the 1 GB RAM (dual 512MBs) for one 256 MB RAM. The 486 was the last of the "pure x86 core" CPUs. If you want to go for "most pure x86/DOS system," a 486 would be the way to go. I'd even argue that the 486 DX 50 is the "most pure" since it's pre-multiplier - clock speed in is the same as CPU clock speed. Pentium is where the actual processing …
