Re: Software to create a webpage for illiterates

Some of the hosting sites might have tools for that. I remember when Homestead first appeared they had tools like that. You didn't need to know any coding at all. http://www.homestead.com/ They were free when I first signed up but now you only get a 30 day free trial then you have to pay $4.99/month …

Re: Computer-use pet peeves

People with older processors/video cards that think 20-30 FPS with low to medium settings is good for gaming. ;) From my experience, 20-30 FPS is actually pretty playable for most games, as long as there's little to no stuttering. I'd rather have a game running at a smooth 20fps than a stuttery …

Re: Biggest wastes of CD-ROM media

Doom, Doom II, Blake Stone Aliens of Gold, Blake Stone Planet Strike, Super Noah's Ark 3D, Duke Nukem II, and many many many more. All under 10 MB, some under 2 MB. =] But a 10mb game would take up around 7 high density floppies and 1 CDROM costs less than 7 floppies. If they hadn't put those small …

Re: Where to buy PCIe power connectors?

Re: Biggest wastes of CD-ROM media

Any game that devotes less than 20% of the CD to playable game content then packs the remaining 80%+ with FMV cut scenes and CD quality audio. I'd rather have a bigger, more complex game with less of that crap.

Re: When is an upgrade not an upgrade?

Since 2001 I have used the same case for my main PC. Every 1.5 years I have upgraded the RAM and maybe the Video Card along with other devices like optical discs and hard drives and the power supply. When the cost for more than doubling my CPU and RAM performance dropped below $200 for the …

Re: When is an upgrade not an upgrade?

True. I always forget that we are very small minority. The general public just buys a Dell, Acer or HP Desktop set and when it gets to slow or bogged down with viruses they buy a new one :) Then one of us goes around on garbage day, picks it up, cleans out all the viruses and crapware and keeps …

Re: Computer-use pet peeves

Why hasn't the VGA port died yet, why are there so many different display connectors and why does my phone have better pixel density than most new laptops? It practically has. You really only see it on low end video cards, motherboards and laptops, I'm guessing because the royalty to use it is …

Re: When is an upgrade not an upgrade?

Well for me this is easy. I usually don't say "I upgraded the computer", but I'm a lot more specific like "I upgraded the processor from a dual core to a quad", or "I upgraded the RAM from 4 to 8GB". You upgrade the cpu of what? Of a particular PC, that remains the same but with a faster cpu. What …
