Didn't the 200 MHz AMD x5 end up beating the 5x85 133 FPU in your tests? (which should mean an 180 MHz x5 should beat a 120 MHz 5x86, and a 150 or 160 MHz x5 should beat a 100 MHz 5x86) Actually, I was a bit surprised the POD and 5x86 performance gap over the 486 wasn't bigger... That's a ridiculous price. I got a Tyan dual socket 604 with 2.4ghz Xeons, heatsinks and fans for $25 shipped not long ago. I then upgraded it with dual 3.2ghz Xeons for another $20 a few months later. I'd wait for something like a ABit VP6 and do the wire mod on the Tualatins. I have 1ghz …

If you're going to be playing 3D games on a socket 3 machine then a Pentium Overdrive or Cyrix 5x86 would be a better CPU to use than an AMD 5x86 because of the stronger FPU, which 3D games make heavy use of. The AMD 5x86 still uses a 486 class FPU, which is more limiting.

That's wrong, actually. The TI version has 8kb cache. Nope. Your statement is wrong. Maybe you mixed it up with Ti's later "SXL" which had 8KB cache …

The Ti486DLC is a Cyrix 486DLC clone. It's basically a pimped up 386 with 1KB L1 cache and the 486 instruction set. Running at 40mhz the speed is quite nice and competes with entry level 486 CPU's up to the DX-33, depending on the game/software used. If you pair it with a decent ISA graphics card …

The Fury MAXX is a nice card to have from a collectible standpoint, which was why I bought one, but I'd rather have a GeForce 256 or Voodoo 5 in a machine that I am actually going to use.
