The charging circuit on the motherboard could also be bad (I have two Powerbook G4's that run fine on AC power but won't charge a battery), but that's the last thing I would check. Check the cheap and simple stuff first.

The only motherboards I ever hated were proprietary OEM ones. You couldn't transplant them to new cases or reuse the OEM cases with new motherboards because the OEM boards would have everything in the wrong place or in the wrong orientation and many times the power supplies couldn't be reused and …

I emailed AMD asking if there were any technical docs that might have the pinout. It's one hell of a long shot though. [Edit] AMD Says that specs and pinout are proprietary and not available to end users. However, they're going to see what they can dig up so maybe there might be something useful …
