Is this what you wanted to do? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UWyY4Pf8go Ignore the fact that this is done with an XBOX 360 as the VGA source. Any VGA signal that you plug into the TV tuner should work. The TV tuner is HD so it won't degrade the signal down to standard TV resolution.

On the back of the card it says Model:ISAPC-00. I've seen those on eBay. They are cheap, maybe $15. From a quick search, I didn't find out much info on them though. Are they NIC-specific? What CPU are you using? 286 and 386SX have a hard limit of 16mb of addressable memory IIRC.

Have you tried using a VGA-DVI adapter on a card that you know does work with a 486 motherboard? A 486 is probably going to be below spec for most cards that come with a DVI port on them.
