You could try to set core=dynamic and cycles=max in your dosbox configuration file.

that's fast with 320x200 games sure. But not that much with 3D games. Well are you sure that "detecting that frame x equals x-1" is cheaper than "just have zlib compress those zeros"? Imo this should not be a problem, but don't know.

zmbv already uses difference-encoding, so how much would additionally checking for unchanged frames help?
