No clue what you want with "touchscreen support", for dosbox there's absolutely no difference between a mouse and a touchscreen regarding the input data. Try some of the apps/games mentioned on the SDL homepage, if none of them works then complain to the sdl people.

The freedos kernel is far from 100% dos compatibility. Nevertheless it has reached a nice level of compatibility, but the main plus is the number of additional programs they (are/were) developing.

Then try core=normal and cycles=500 and be sure the correct value is displayed in the title bar of the dosbox window.

You could force a default from Exult, so you can use the default sdl.dll but still have a different video backend setting.

That is the source of that problem, I think. As hal said this is intentional for simple speed reasons. directx was the well-tested default for sdl for a very long time, and only recently they stopped to update the directx part but made the (back then very buggy, now at-least-working) windib the …

Don't use DFend, use an up-to-date frontend (DFendReloaded, DBGL, whatever). Be sure you're using the latest dosbox version, and that the sound is configured correctly for the game.

I don't know how DOSBox uses this. It's a path of the mounted directory structure, so if c:\x is mounted as d-drive and c:\x\ULTRASND exists (containing a gus patches installation, the ultradir entry should contain D:\ULTRASND

Well no idea about that, disconnect from the internet, then kill a few background apps and see if you still can produce that effect. Reboot if finished testing. Also check your graphics card drivers/directx version, and keep an eye on the dosbox console window for notices.

Nice 😀 Maybe you have some background app/windows feature active that flips the screen? As i can't think of anything in dosbox/sdl that would do that.

dosbox is a regular windows application, so if it can have THAT effect to an operating system your OS/drivers are seriously messed up, don't you think?
