Well then "fix" it. Sources are on sourceforge. But honestly i won't recommend adding helpful messages next time so we don't get complaints like that. Message will simply be "can't change directory" like in dos.

As i said get the mountings right (without frontend preferrably), reinstall the game within dosbox (stick to the mountings) etc.

that I think a DosBox developer know how create I've written basic code last time when gorilla/nibble.bas were fun to play, so that option is highly unlikely.

ah ok I didnt think that the source code is not independent of the developer tools =) Yes maybe try to compile ANY recent code with turbo c and have fun.

So it's possible this call was omitted from DOSBox's CDROM handling, causing CDs to appear empty on OS X? No, as far as i see it's called, especially for the GetAudioTracks function. If you can compile dosbox, maybe you can add some logging to those functions to see if they return with an error or …

If I stop using the frontend surely I'll end up at square one again? Yes, thus solve that and continue then. Especially as solving it requires that you understood how the mounting works (see the readme/various guides).

Please use the official dosbox 0.72 release without any frontend for testing. This simplifies things greatly. Then have a look at the dosbox.conf file, check if you can edit it, if it gets saved correctly, and if the values are used by dosbox.

Reading the SDL sources audio playing seems supported. Maybe you could check AudioFilePlayer.c in the cdrom/macosx directory if you can identify something, how it works or so.

Maybe they use some direct access to the hard disk which doesn't work under xp as well as dosbox. You could check that by using disk images and installing dos on them (use bochs or so for that).

With QuickBasic or QBX you can generate executables out of qbasic programs (which you can't with the stripped down qbasic found in msdos). 07.02.2000 18:31 16.895 INSTALL.EXE File might be broken. Anyways, use a clean dosbox.conf, mountings like this: mount a a:\ -t floppy mount c c:\some\directory and then test the installer. Post the exact error message if there is any, and when exactly it happens.
