Deinstall all dosbox versions (be sure you make a backup of config files and stuff you might need later), and be sure the directories are empty/non-present. Then re-download the latest dosbox version and install it. Check if you can edit the installed dosbox.conf file and report back.

Are you sure that irq9 is triggered? Would make sense for 2pic machines at least, but the intlist explicitly mentions it as irq2 only. The 0x70 for read_p3c2 comes from some vgatest utility that checks values against ibm vga ones (ih8regs modified it accordingly iirc), so might not hurt to OR the …

Check out the CAN_USE_LOCK in bios_keyboard.cpp, maybe that has an effect on that. Is everything else the same, especially the SDL version?

Some settings in the [sdl] section aren't handled by dfend but set to bad values which caused several problems.

So could/should just hack in to set that bit of 3c2 where currently the ega (only) issues an irq2? Or is the irq needed for any game/demo?

The scaler BituMove might be interesting and is easy enough (not sure if the 16byte alignment is fine though). Did you profile some stuff with that? Especially default modes (320x200 games with normal2x scaler).

Video looks indeed a bit odd. Try cycles=max or cycles=2000 or cycles=20000. Maybe somebody else can verify the behaviour.

Well mt32 inclusion isn't open for discussion anyways so this leads to nothing either way 😉 Maybe somewhen canadacow/KingGuppy continue/publish new stuff, their last reports were heading into an interesting direction.

none with 320x200 stretched to native res looked awful. Then use a different output and/or fix your gfx drivers. Because it looks like shit in comparison. Be sure you're not doing something wrong before stating stuff like that.

The difference is in the interpolation at the edges. Either way if somebody wants to play at big resolutions then he shall use fullscreen which is why it's there in the first place.
