readme/faq is quite explicit about this: "Be sure that the sound is correctly configured in the game." But nice you figured it out yourself.

Just look at it, if possible with the debugger (data AND code). It's a list of int xx (where x is from 0 to 0xff) followed by the return callbacks. This data is very unlikely to change and should always be accessible.

Doubt any game uses that. Why is that function called with 0xff anyways? Is that freedos specific? (drdos had something there iirc)

Hm indeed no usable strings there. If you still want to use some rom scanning use the values at 0xf000:0x2000 which are quite unique due to the callbacks.

Though scanning the vga rom area for a dosbox string might be best, as vesa might not be present (cga/vgaonly etc.)

i also should add i did get installed without dosbox but when i run it to play that is when i get the blank screen. What do you get when you install it within dosbox under vista? How to speed up things is in the readme.

fullscreen? Be sure you stick to windowed mode for testing at first. Did you install the game under vista+dosbox?

There are no disks for them, so after installing to the C:\ I mount C to C: Install it WITHIN dosbox and choose a mounting like "mount c d:\oldstuff" for both the installation (additionally mount the install folder as d drive for dosbox) as well as the gameplay.

If you wanna use the above code for more than just (speed) tests, you should definitely get rid of the push/pop pair as that messes up the stack if the rep movsb triggers a pagefault.
