4409 should not really matter, network check as you said. But i don't see the problem yet, they scan the fixed disks for that groovie.ini file which indicates that the game is already installed (which it is not if the file can't be found). and also support old games with Voodoo 3dfx without hassles! Sure, and clean the dishes etc. Maybe just try a few frontends, it's not THAT hard downloading them and looking at it.

There's no "best" frontend. And if you want to just play dungeon keeper, just set up a mounting in the [autoexec]-section without any frontend.

Try closing down all background applications first (if this includes the firewall and antivirus, be sure to physically cut off the internet first, and don't forget to re-enable the firewall/av after testing).

Just tried, works fine for me (installer is on cd2 as you said). Maybe get some debugger-enabled dosbox build and see what mscdex calls they do (they are rather sparse for me and the cdrom detection works fine), int2f ah=15

The emulated program is trying to write to an area of memory that is read-only Nope. This error message is thrown when an interrupt gate's stack segment selector points to a segment that is not writeable. Usually as you said "something" went wrong way earlier though.

Dominus' guide says to use c:\drivers\s3, so WHY DO YOU USE ANYTHING DIFFERENT AGAIN? I'll close this thread if you'll contine to not stick to the guide. Maybe you should simply not run windows inside dosbox.

Maybe try a different cvs build to be sure (gulikoza's for example). Otherwise you're out of luck, i only tested the demo of the game some time ago.

Instead of a snarky reply, i'll tell you that the reason why intel-based macs are better suited for dosbox than ppc-based ones is because of the recompiler.
