Thank you very much, i was assuming that the entries on mobygames were correct with respect to the minimum processor requirement. I also failed to get skynet to run under bochs compiled with 386-only target support, which supports your testings.

Well somewhere you got to specify the path to doom. Either you got that wrong, or it can't access the executable there. So be sure you stick to something easy like having the stuff in d:\oldstuff\doom1 and mounting the d:\oldstuff as your c: drive (mount c d:\oldstuff).

Doesn't that have some auto-searching ability? Maybe copy for example the doom1 files into d:\doom1 and specify the doom1 files residing in c:\doom1 (as you did mount c d:\ ).

Try playing with the scaler/resolution settings of the preference file. Under windows it rarely happens with bad/old graphics drivers or disabled/lowered graphics hardware acceleration.

That's known, it is due to speed reasons. We can't quit the rendering fast enough in some rare cases (which is a reproducable case for you it seems due to some background app if i understand correctly).

Maybe the (SDL?) call that queries the desktop resolution returns bad values for some reason.

Please try something like mount c d:\ mount d f:\ -t cdrom as very first, and be sure you're using dosbox 0.72

That's odd, meaning that the default dosbox.conf would not work on that pc. Maybe try the windib stuff, try some self-built sources where you can add logging where it crashes (or squeeze it through some debugger).

swap the mountings and use some empty directory for your emulated c: like imgmount d E:\Images\Realms_of_Arkania_3.iso -t iso mount c e:\oldgames Be sure you install the game then, not just try to run it.

The GPU has drivers which simply ask you the same questions I did - scale, scale w/ aspect, do not scale. So what should i answer to the GPU now? Why is the GPU asking me questions? Now explain to me why I cannot then choose whether to fix the aspect or not. Yeah dunno why you can't. Don't remember …
