Ok PLEASE forget COMPLETELY about dfend. I don't know if it's compatible with 0.70 and i'm sure you installed it wrong anyways as it should never occur in the dosbox folder. Anyways with a clean installed 0.70 dosbox that crashes, grab the readme and go through the troubleshoot section. Especially …

It greatly comlicates finding what causes it if you always install additional things. Keep it at a CLEAN installation WITHOUT dfend and stuff. If that works you might mess around with as many frontends as you like.

he did 'dir dosbox.exe' which will only bring up dosbox.exe. Ah ok sorry, didn't see that. Is that directory listing before or after you uninstalled+deleted dosbox? There's a lot clutter in it and most likely some old dosbox.conf gets used.

Ok, you should get several more files than only the dosbox.exe, mainly SDL.dll is missing.

Um that installation looks quite broken. Did you remove files? Completely uninstall it, assure that the folder is deleted, then re-download the dosbox 0.70 release and install it. Try again what minimax posted then.

It is (caused by) the same bug as the one that crashes archimedean dynasty. At least with the fix i couldn't get stonekeep to crash battling those flames (thanks for this savegame, i'm still at those rats and goblins). The bug is very old but didn't show up yet. You could try the workaround …

The interpretating of the quoting/escaping is done by the shell when it constructs the argument list. Well the single quotes should be evaluated at a different point. But neither tested it nor ever can remember how they work. Try playing with them, stacking \"' in funny amounts. Or remove the …

no, you're happily editing makefiles and stuff 😉 autogen.sh should create ./configure which is already present in your installation it seems
