That's really interesting and I wonder if any hardware site has done an investigation into this. It makes sense to optimize for the new games of course. Personally a single 285 would be all I need. Although a GTS250 1GB will likely be easier to source and might even be more compatible.

For DOS games you really want an ISA Sound Card. PCI Sound Cards are great for Windows Games. The games you mention run in DOS. Windows 98 comes with DOS 7.1. In short, get another computer with ISA slots and an ISA Sound Card. Or play newer games that run on Windows like Tomb Raider 2 or Quake 2.
